Today, November 19, the Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia (DAIF Latvia) and the Taiwan Excellence Drone Industry Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The purpose of the memorandum is to establish a reliable and stable platform for future industrial collaboration, as well as to promote partnerships and strategic alliances to foster industrial cooperation and bilateral investments. The agreement aims to strengthen Taiwan and Latvia’s capabilities in drone technology, trade, and competitiveness.
Alongside the signing ceremony, an event to promote collaboration between the drone and defence industries of Latvia, Estonia, and Taiwan was held. A Taiwanese drone industry delegation, comprising representatives from 22 companies in unmanned aerial systems, ICT, space technology, and electronics, visited Riga. Taiwanese entrepreneurs met with their Latvian and Estonian counterparts, presenting their companies, exploring partnerships, and continuing discussions in a B2B format.
During the event’s opening, FSDI Latvia’s Chairperson, Elīna Egle, highlighted:
“Latvia and Taiwan share a mutual desire for freedom and the understanding that it must be defended. Latvia has a unique potential to become a European hub where investments, logistics, and industrial traditions converge. Today, we focus particularly on drone development—from aerial to underwater drones. Thanks to Latvia’s initiative, a strong international Drone Coalition has been established, and several robust companies in Latvia are developing unmanned systems that contribute to Ukraine’s victory. In Latvia, we pay significant attention to testing and development capabilities, with one such site being developed at the Selonia Military Training Area. By combining efforts and capabilities, we can achieve outstanding results, enhancing both regional security and economic growth.”
More than 20 companies from Latvia participated in the event, representing sectors such as unmanned systems (aerial, ground, water, and underwater drones), cybersecurity, communications technology, energy, tactical equipment, military personnel gear production, innovative technologies, military construction, and more.
